From an Unexpected Opportunity to a Lifelong Career:
How I Became a Czech Language Teacher

Beginnings Without Experience

My journey to teaching Czech started in a somewhat unconventional way.” At that time, I was only working in student positions to earn money for rent and food while studying. However, getting up at four in the morning and riding my bike to work in the rain would be exhausting for anyone. I came across a website where you can register as a language teacher and teach almost without experience. As a native speaker of Czech, I thought it would be a piece of cake. The opposite was true. After years abroad, during which I hardly used Czech, I started to have trouble expressing myself in Czech, let alone explaining anything to students.

First Students

Since I wanted to provide everyone with the best possible language education, I began to work on myself. I participated in webinars on how to give Czech lessons to foreigners, read books, and tried to explain grammar in a way that would be understandable for everyone. Before long, I started creating my own teaching materials because I had trouble finding anything of good quality. Over time, I completed intensive courses for teaching foreign languages and became a certified teacher. At university, subjects like the basics of pedagogy also helped me in deciding my future career, and soon I was clear about what I wanted to do.

Czech for the Whole World

To this day, I remember my very first lesson with a British student who wanted to learn because his wife is Czech and he has a large part of his family in the Czech Republic. A few weeks later, people from all over the world started reaching out to me. I taught students from Australia to Japan, from Spain to Poland. Most wanted to learn because of partners and family members from the Czech Republic, while others were interested in studying, traveling, or wished to obtain permanent residency and live permanently in our beautiful country. I would never have believed how many people would fall in love with the Czech language. What started as a dream became a full-time job, and I continued studying and completing additional courses for teaching languages. Fortunately, I successfully completed my studies and am now fully dedicated to teaching.

Passion for Teaching

Today, I have been teaching the Czech language for the third year and have gathered countless experiences that I try to utilize in my lessons. I enjoy discussing anything that interests my students. Dozens of students have gone through my online classes, and I have had the opportunity to prepare them for language exams, their first trips to the Czech Republic, or to help them build confidence in speaking. I have further utilized my gained experiences in teaching at language schools, international companies, and corporations. I take joy in seeing students come to class full of energy, and I hope that they never lose their enthusiasm for learning.

No a v neposlední řadě se s ní fajn povídá :)

"Sára is simply an amazing teacher, very supportive and encouraging, I personally love to learn Czech with her! The lesson materials are standard (reading, writing, listening and speaking), although, Sára is always encouraging to speak more. You do not have to purchase any additional study materials, everything Sára shares can be printed at home. She adapts the material to my particular level and, also, she is super welcome to verify some additional "home" assignments and correct my mistakes. As a native speaker, it is super interesting to learn some "insights" from her about Czech language like some "local" pronunciation rules or something similar. Additionally, she is always ready to ditch the original lesson topic and discuss something I'm interested in (ofc in Czech, to train speaking and listening), which is super cool! Sára is punctual and the lessons schedule is very flexible as well. All in all - I can only highly recommend!"

I've been taking Czech lessons from Sára since January 2024 (7 months) and plan to continue for the foreseeable future. She's a great teacher and a rare combination of personable, fun, intelligent, and patient. Her price for lessons is very fair, and her lessons have taught me more than I expected. I highly recommend her!

Sára is a fantastic tutor! She's always prepared with comprehensive lessons that build upon the previous week's work and she's quick to respond to questions with detailed answers. I took a very introductory course to Czech while studying in Prague years ago, and now that I've decided to take it up again with the intent of becoming fluent, I feel as though Sára is the perfect tutor to help me achieve that goal with confidence. In addition to teaching grammar, pronunciation, etc., she incorporates Czech history and culture into the lessons, which adds color and dimension to learning the language. Thanks, Sára!
